FPS Games

  • Battlefield 2 was created by DICE and released by EA Games in June 2005. The premise is modern day warfare between the US, China, and Arab forces. Visit EA's BF2 Portal for more basic information.

The game play is centered on teamwork. The sides are broken into 4 main groups, the Commander who controls the overall battle plan and objectives; the Squad Leaders who are liaisons for the Commander and control the ground forces; the Squad Members are those that follow their respective leaders' orders and attempt to complete the overall objective of winning the day; and finally the Lone Wolfs who fight solo (often foolishly).

The game also has class systems (Medics, Special Forces, Assault, Support, Engineer, and Anti-Tank. These classes have unlocks that can be activate by playing on "ranked" servers that connect to the EA master database. Since this process is very time consuming, LanzGaming.Net is running its own customized version of BF2statistics which will allow for a more high speed climb through the ranks when playing only on LanzGaming.Net Battlefield 2 servers.

  •   Counter-Strike: Source -- Up to Date
Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter in which players join either the terrorist or counter-terrorist team (or becomes a spectator). Each team attempts to complete their mission objective and/or eliminate the opposing team. Each round starts with the two teams spawning simultaneously, usually at opposite ends of the map from each other. A player can choose to play as one of eight different default character models. Players are generally given a few seconds before the round begins (known as "freeze time") to prepare and buy equipment, during which they cannot attack or walk/move. They can return to the buy area within a set amount of time to buy more equipment. Once the round has ended, surviving players retain their equipment for use in the next round; players who were killed begin the next round with the basic default starting equipment.

Standard monetary bonuses are awarded for winning a round, losing a round, killing an enemy, being the first to instruct a hostage to follow, rescuing a hostage or planting the bomb.

The scoreboard displays team scores in addition to statistics for each player: name, kills, deaths, and ping (in milliseconds). The scoreboard also indicates whether a player is dead, carrying the bomb (on bomb maps), or is the VIP (on assassination maps), although information on players on the opposing team is hidden from a player until his/her death, as this information can be important.

  •   Team Fortress 2 -- Up to Date
Like its predecessors, Team Fortress 2 is built around two opposing teams competing for an objective. These two teams are meant to represent a demolition and a construction company: Reliable Excavation Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU). Players can choose to play as one of nine classes in these teams, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.

The objective of the game is defined by the game mode in use. In capture the flag maps, the objective for both teams is to obtain a briefcase of intelligence from the enemy team's base and return it to their own base while preventing the opposing team from doing the same. Control point modes are more varied in their objectives, but share the common aim of capturing a particular point on the map.In some levels, the objective for both teams is to secure all the points on the map.

On other levels, one team already holds all the points and must defend them from the other for a set amount of time. A third variation, introduced with the map "Hydro", is based on territory: each team must capture the other team's single active control point to secure that section of the map. Once all sections have been captured by one team, they are then able to attack the other team's base directly. A further game mode, payload, was introduced in April 2008 with the map "Gold Rush". In payload maps, one team has to work to escort a rail cart carrying a bomb along a track through a series of checkpoints, eventually detonating the bomb in the other team's base. The other team has to defend their positions and prevent the cart from reaching the end within a set amount of time.

  • Released in November 2007, Unreal Tournament 3 is the fifth installment in the Unreal franchise created by Epic Games. The Unreal series is hailed by most as one of the greatest FPS games of all time. While some game modes such has Assault, Bombing Run, and Double Domination were removed from this installment, Death Match, Capture the Flag, and Warfare (Onslaught) still exist in all their glory.

Unreal Tournament 3 was created using the Unreal 3 engine and so has graphics and physics that easily compete with the best games that are currently out.

Death Match/Team Death Match/Duel - First player/team to reach the set number of kills wins.
Capture the Flag/Vehicle CTF - First team to reach set number of flag captures wins.
Warfare - Capture 'power nodes' to finally gain access to the enemy 'power core,' which then needs to be destroyed.

  • Call of Duty 4 was developed by Infinity Ward and is published by Activision. This modern day warfare simulation has broken way from the long followed Call of Duty series allegiance to World War 2. Playable factions are the US Marines, British SAS, USSR, and Middle Eastern Terrorists.

While the singleplayer campaign is amazing in and of itself, the multiplayer community has thrived. There is a leveling system for multiplayer, with a number of unlocks.

Call of Duty 4 is a game that is easy to enjoy and easy to play.

  •   Left4Dead -- Up to Date

Survival mode places 4 human players against the computerized hordes in a non-stop assault on player's skill and teamwork to survive the longest.

RTS Games

  • The main game, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos was released in 2002 with the expansion The Frozen Throne released in 2003. Created by Blizzard as the third installment in the Warcraft franchise, many user created mods and maps have spawned from the included SDK. While many good standard RTS maps exist, we normally tend to play fun mini-games such as “Poke the Ogre” or “Tower Defense” as these are less competitive and more just mind-numbing fun that relieves the stress from competitive FPS play.
